Life Sciences

Technological precision for the life of tomorrow

Approach

How do we get the best out of every molecule - and every kilowatt hour?

Committed to life

Buildings for life sciences must meet the highest technical requirements. Precision and speed are essential. We know the challenges and deliver all disciplines from a single source - from the idea to operation. Our approach to engineering for the life sciences ensures that technology and research interact perfectly.

Cutting-edge technology for cutting-edge research

Our engineers develop cleanrooms and laboratories that inspire top researchers. We plan from the experience we have gained over more than three decades in the Basel Life Sciences Cluster. This is precisely where the strength of our life sciences engineering comes to the fore - close to the needs, close to the people.

Engineering for a better world

A 3000 m² cleanroom zone C requires 4-5 GWh of electrical energy per year for ventilation and cooling alone. With pioneering system designs, we reduce this figure by 30 percent and cut operating costs throughout the entire life cycle. It is precisely this kind of efficiency that makes modern engineering in the life sciences.

Our nomination for the Building Award 2023
Conventional cleanroom systems are resource-intensive and not very user-oriented - a research project with Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts shows how sustainable alternatives can be developed.

Time-to-market with a focus on energy efficiency
With precise planning and a well-coordinated team of experts, we implement projects holistically: from consulting to design and construction management to qualification.

Life science production environments require a lot of energy. With every increase in efficiency, we improve the competitiveness of our customers and at the same time contribute to protecting the planet.

Life sciences projects are often a race against time. In order to win this, we start with an experienced and well-coordinated team. With our end-to-end approach for pharma, biotech and medtech, we bring all the experts together under one roof.

In focus right from the start
Life sciences projects have always characterized us. Building technology plays a key role. One of Jobst Willers' first projects in the 1980s was the central laboratory for the blood donation service in Bern. To this day, we continue to support the successor organization CSL Behring in the maintenance and expansion of the infrastructure in Bern. We think in generations.

When talent meets opportunity
Sometimes things have to happen quickly. After receiving a request to immediately take over the management of the commissioning of a new cleanroom facility in Hungary, our experts were on site just one week later. After two months, the new production lines were handed over to the company on schedule. For us, this means taking responsibility.
The Willers Heart-and-Soul Engineers
Life sciences projects are not simply 9-to-5, which makes our experts all the more important - here our CTO and cleanroom aficionado Andreas Rieben (right) together with project engineer Timo Hirschi (left) at the customer's site.

Re-engineered: Central solids dispensation
As general planners, we were able to renovate 4,000 m² of cleanroom space for a big pharma customer - including dispensing areas, containment weighing cabins and sample train cabins. Compared to the existing concept design, we reduced both the costs and the implementation time, despite phased implementation during ongoing operations, and successfully completed the project.

SERVICES

Interdisciplinarity counts in the life sciences: we have engineers, architects and pharmaceutical technologists working hand in hand.

When planning cleanrooms, the smallest detail counts, without losing sight of the big picture. We supply cutting-edge technology from a single source.

As a partner in laboratory planning, we take responsibility - from the initial idea to the functioning laboratory operation. Our goal: solutions that are convincing in everyday life and last in the long term.

The basis of life sciences is quality. With our GMP services, from GMP compliance to qualification and validation, we create the prerequisites.

As general planners, we bear overall responsibility for complex construction projects - from technical planning to execution. We coordinate all trades and ensure quality, deadlines and costs.

Economical, sustainable and productive: modern building technology creates inspiring environments.

The physical and digital worlds are increasingly converging. Our digital building solutions create building systems that use data intelligently and create new opportunities.

We advise on all aspects of energy and building technology. Sometimes as technical experts, sometimes as project managers for major investments.
