challenges
Each specialist area has its own specific requirements for the information content of the objects it manages. These had to be included in corresponding specifications and coordinated with each other in the best possible way. The principle of "less is more" is very important here. This is because every piece of requested information has to be maintained later during operation. And so, through various iterations, it was clarified step by step what actually needed to be managed in a CAFM system and where it would be better to fall back on the information stored in the client's CDE.
A hospital changes every day and it is therefore important to update the BIM models during operation so that the applications that use these models (3D viewer in CAFM, localization solution, building navigation, etc.) have a reliable basis. The fact that 8 different authoring systems were used for the trades meant that the most generic approach possible had to be chosen. An export/import process was developed in conjunction with the client's CDE and the CAFM system that enables cyclical model maintenance in a simple and automatic manner during operation.
SOLUTIONS
The digital twin at Aargau Cantonal Hospital is a system network that was built up step by step. At the beginning of the first project phase, the CAFM system (waveware) was set up with all the necessary interfaces to the ERP, CMDB and Emtec database and the corresponding processes were trimmed with a view to later CDE and BIM integration. In the second project phase, the client CDE (Libal) was set up and configured together with the TU of Dreiklang. Finally, in the third stage, the interface between CDE and CAFM was set up, tested and optimized so that information could be synchronized fully automatically in both directions. This was the basis for the final step, the process for updating the model during operation.
Parallel to all phases, the employees involved were trained in the specialist areas so that the applications could be used optimally and without frustration. Any difficulties that arose were identified and resolved at an early stage.
