Smart Hospital - Zurich Children's Hospital

New Children's Hospital Zurich Bird's-eye view
In addition to a state-of-the-art building automation system, a smart hospital platform has also been set up at Zurich Children's Hospital. This can be used to locate devices in the building, show the occupancy of rooms and workstations and create indoor navigation for visitors. These innovations increase efficiency in building management and maintenance, improve patient satisfaction and ensure seamless, safe and sustainable care.

challenges

How can the use of the latest and rapidly developing technology be realized in a long construction project?

Several years passed between the concept, the tender and the first operation of the innovative solutions. The selection of the most suitable solution and the further development of the options during the construction process were correspondingly difficult. The integration of the various sensors, the development of the necessary interfaces to the peripheral systems and the architectural intricacies of the buildings were additional hurdles that had to be overcome.

SOLUTIONS

With a smart hospital platform that adapts to changing needs.

In collaboration with the contractor, various specialist planners and the building owners, it was possible to create an overall system that covers many facets of a smart hospital. The core of the solution is the smart hospital platform, which receives and processes all data and, where necessary, forwards it to the neighboring systems. The UWB-based localization solution enables devices and people in the building to be precisely located. If they leave a predefined area, the security personnel are alerted. By combining this with the resuscitation call, staff can quickly find the right location.

People counters at neuralgic points provide information about occupancy and waiting times. Sensors at the shared desk workstations allow employees to quickly find one of over 1,000 workstations in their vicinity. A navigation solution guides visitors and employees quickly to their destination.

A corresponding interface was implemented so that relevant information can also be used in the CAFM system.
