44west coral reef

While we are slowly heading towards a quieter Christmas, 44west.ch continue to row west undeterred. More than 800 of 4,800 kilometers are already behind them and the team is stubbornly holding on to first place.

But their adventure is about more than just top sporting performance. Julian Müller, Luca Fayd'herbe de Maudave, Lorenzo Henseler and Matthias Fernandez don't just row across the ocean, they row for it.

Coral reefs are among the most valuable ecosystems on our planet - and yet they are disappearing at an alarming rate. Together with rrreefs, a former ETH spin-off, 44West is using this expedition to raise awareness and funds for the reconstruction of coral reefs.

The common goal: to realize a 44West coral reef in the Philippines in 2026 and thus make a concrete contribution to marine biodiversity. rrreefs is developing modular, 3D-printed reef structures that attract new life and accelerate the natural regeneration of the oceans. Each individual reef acts as a catalyst - with an impact far beyond a single location.

8,500 of the required 15,000 francs have already been raised. Anyone still looking for a meaningful gift idea can support the project directly and make a contribution that will have an impact far beyond this trip.

We are still cheering them on and wish them a tailwind for the next stages on the Atlantic.
